There is a whole host of things you can do with your family on fun days out in the UK. As summer draws to a close, you find families and friends start to think of ways to past the time closer to home than the beaches and foreign countries visited over the summer months. There are still a whole host of exciting days out that you can do all year round right here and the best ones are listed below. Why not see how many you can do before the end of 2014!
Wander round a market
Markets can be an exciting place, full of mysterious items and secret treasures that are begging to be discovered and cherished. They are a great place to find toys, home accessories and even more! The UK is speckled with a number of amazing markets but Kempton Park, who host a market every Thursday as well as the Sunbury Antiques market bi-monthly, has the largest and longest running bi-monthly market in the country. Wander round the market filled with everything from household goods to groceries and then even visit the restaurant which has a panoramic view over the racecourse if you fancy a bit to eat and a fantastic view!
Go to a National Trust area
The UK is full of areas of outstanding natural beauty that are a joy to take in and can be enjoyed even if sun isn’t shining. Grab some walking boots or wellies and go out on a family walk to unload, relax and explore what nature has to offer. A magical waterfall holds a secret cave that is supposedly the home of the Queen of Fairies in Malham, Yorkshire Dales. See how many birds of prey you can spot in the woods of Sheringham Park in the East of England. Or experience the wild beauty of the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland.
See the latest blockbusters at the Cinema
Visiting the cinema is a great way to spend a day out with the family with a wide range of films that ensure everyone is happy with the final choice. Grab some popcorn and drinks to complete the movie experience and choose from a wide range of exceptional films. Already this year we have had The Amazing Spiderman 2 and The Lego Movie with How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Guardians of The Galaxy now in cinemas. If you haven’t seen it already the How to Train Your Dragon 2 trailer is definitely worth a watch.
Visit the monkeys at the Zoo
Another way to take in nature is to visit the zoo and marvel at the wide range of exotic animals on show there. ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is the biggest and best in the UK and it even has a drive-through safari! Lions, Zebras, Elephants and Giraffes, you will find all of them here along with more exotic birds, reptiles and the very cute red pandas. A great day out that is fun for the whole family and definitely worth the money, just be careful of those mischievous monkeys…
Explore history or science at a Museum
A great way to learn more about our past or science, and also making learning fun, is to visit one of the many world renowned museums in London. Remember to take a picnic to avoid paying for expensive meals in the museum café and make the day even cheaper with free entry at the most popular museums. For animal and dinosaurs lovers, the Natural History Museum and its huge dinosaur skeletons will be sure to fuel your prehistoric fantasies. The British History Museum is ideal for lovers of ancient Greece and Egypt, with an exhibition of 8 different mummies and their stories, on show until mid-November. Finally the Science Museum gives exploring science a more hands-on approach with its extremely popular interactive gallery launchpad.
